I overheard Coyote Drive In's General Manager, Chris Fortune say that the drive in got its name from two coyotes who were living on the site when they started construction. There were coyotes living there before it was a drive in,. The Coyote was always meant to be a temporary thing. The property was leased from the Tarrant Regional Water District until they decided to move forward with the Panther Island Project.

I had been going to the Coyote Drive In since it opened in 2012. Not only did it remind me of the drive ins I went to as a kid, but unlike the older drive ins, I could actually take my dogs with me to this one.
